AppFog free cloud for Java
Everyone these days keep on asking me for a hosting of their web services that developed on JAVA. As every developer is much aware of the heavy cost on the servers of java. We have few ways in order to reduce cost of web services hosting by creating an account on Amazon Elastic Cloud. But, this will not be the case often as in most of the cases we need to demonstrate an application for which no one is willing to pay for registration of any hosting server.
Finally we got a solution under the roof of appfog.com. As appfog.com is a free web cloud to host java based services that can be used for integration with Android, Java Desktop Application or any other application where you want to integrate a java service. So, my this blog is just to demonstrate a way to host an application.
Once you will click on this link http://www.appfog.com you will get to the first page of appfog which will be something like this:
After choosing sign-up go input the information with a valid email address because they will send you an activation token on to that email address.
Once you got an email input the activation token to this window or directly click the link that was provided in you email account.
After account activation you will be redirected to your profile page where you can even see the quote of your cloud drive space which is 2GB for free accounts with 8 services that can be deployed on your cloud machine.
Here you must be seeing at all those 5 tabs that are showing other then the profile that was by default selected. (i.e. Apps, Services, SSL, Plans & Teams). So here only 2 will be useful as Teams is only available for paid users which you can use for collaboration, obviously as we mentioned we are solo in our company so not going to bother to get a paid services in order to use this thing. Secondly we are willing to have free account not a paid one so in my case team I can stay happy without team collaboration. Second tab that we will not be able to consume is SSL. Well now not trying to get into the cons and being optimistic looking into the pros of appfog.com.
Now don't drag it further and click on apps tab and in App tab you will find a button of new tab. By clicking on new tab you will have a simple wizard screen where you need to select application then infrastructure and finally write the name of domain which will be used to access that application.
This is it. Once you will create the application you will see the following screen and your app created on cloud in few seconds.
Service can also be created from the new application that you have created.
